On May 29 and June 12, HAIC hosted the ESG Thematic Competition and the 2023 Public Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, respectively, to strengthen foundational knowledge in public management and enhance students’ sustainable development and innovative practice skills. Esteemed judges, including Professor Lin Haiying, Supervisor Cao Yang, Secretary-General Nie Shuxiang, and General Manager Xiao Hua, provided expert feedback, bridging theory and practice.

The ESG Thematic Competition, concluded on May 29, showcased 15 teams exploring sustainable development across sectors like rubber, finance, and pharmaceuticals. Teams analyzed local and industry-leading companies, such as Hainan Natural Rubber and Tongrentang, focusing on environmental, social responsibility, and corporate governance aspects. Judges offered industry-specific guidance based on their expertise.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition on June 12 featured 15 teams addressing local issues like rural revitalization and ecological construction in Hainan Free Trade Port. Notable projects included "Qiong Jiao You Chan," optimizing the tropical agricultural chain, "Coconut Island Time," using AI short videos to boost rural tourism, "Carbon Chain Campus," promoting low-carbon campus governance, and the "Free Trade Port Training and Employment Integration Platform," addressing local talent supply and demand challenges.

Professor Lin Haiying evaluated projects based on topic selection, logic, and professional relevance, while Xiao Hua and Nie Shuxiang provided insights on commercial viability. Awards were given to outstanding projects, with "Qiong Jiao You Chan," "Coconut Island Time," and "Carbon Chain Campus" winning first prizes.

These competitions fostered a comprehensive professional development model, integrating theory, case analysis, and innovative practice. Students honed skills in ESG analysis, project planning, and presentation, enhancing their capabilities in sustainable development and public management innovation.

By promoting learning through competition and practice, these events effectively merged academic teaching with industry practice, empowering students to become innovative public management professionals with a strong local focus and global perspective.
