Multicultural Event lights up Mission Hills campus
Under the golden glow of the setting sun, the square of Hainan University’s Mission Hills campus was transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural celebration as the 2025 Multicultural Event kicked off on April 20.
Hosted by the Language and Cultural Studies Center of the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College at Hainan University (HAITC), the event was more than a cultural showcase; it was an immersive journey that brought the world’s diverse traditions to life. With eight themed booths and three captivating stage performances, the event offered a dynamic fusion of global cultures.
At the traditional Chinese culture-themed booth, participants delved into Chinese arts, trying their hands at calligraphy, lacquer fan painting and sachet making. The ethnic costume booth allowed them to dress in Indian sarees, European court attire, traditional Chinese clothing and ethnic minority costumes, while capturing the moments in photos. A Li ethnic paper-cutting station added another cultural layer, offering a glimpse into the intricate art of Chinese craftsmanship.
As the event unfolded, visitors could explore different cultures through a variety of engaging activities, from quiz games to crafting dreamcatchers, applying henna tattoos and getting face paintings. They learned Italian hand gestures, matched regional dishes and identified iconic Italian brands, all while gaining valuable cultural insights. In a lively atmosphere, participants also enjoyed trivia challenges and practiced Spanish phrases, adding a playful touch to their experience.
The international food booth attracted a constant flow of people, as the delightful aromas of pizza, nachos and Cuban sandwiches filled the air. Tasting these global dishes became an exploration of flavor, connecting participants to different cultures through their rich culinary traditions.
In addition to the booths, the event featured a vibrant Cuban dance interaction, where participants, even those with no prior experience, joined in with enthusiasm. A cosplay performance of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End brought anime characters to life on stage, captivating the audience with stunning costumes and expressive performances. The event also included spontaneous dance sessions, where upbeat music invited everyone to move, creating an electrifying atmosphere of shared excitement.
