Wine tasting class: A journey of aroma and a taste of life
The wine tasting class is another highlight among the hands-on training courses offered by the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College at Hainan University (HAITC). Divided into two sessions, the class offers students a fascinating introduction to the world of wine, allowing them to experience its richness and elegance.

The first session focuses on foundational knowledge. The instructor begins with the history of wine, its classifications and the wine-making process, helping students build a solid theoretical base. In addition to the lecture, students have the opportunity to taste three different types of red wine, getting a first glimpse into the unique flavors and characteristics of each.
The second session is a practical one. As the instructor continues to explain the theoretical aspects of various wines, students participate in the tasting of over 10 different varieties. Guided step by step, they gently swirl their glasses to observe the color and clarity of the wine before taking in the aroma, exploring its unique fragrances and complex layers. Finally, they take a sip, savoring the taste and the lingering finish.
“The wine tasting class gives me a deeper understanding of wine and teaches me how to appreciate it properly,” said one student. “It opens a door to a world I have never explored before. Now, every time I enjoy a glass of wine, I can truly experience its refined aroma and graceful character — it’s like savoring the beauty of life itself.”
