Prof Chris Ryan delivers a lecture at HAITC
A well-known tourism researcher Professor Chris Ryan delivered a lecture titled "Publishing, academic careers and research" at the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College, Hainan University (HAITC) before the global tourism forum on Nov 13.
As a member of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, Ryan is also the honorary editor of the journal Tourism Management, the founder of the journal Tourism Management Perspectives and the director of the China-New Zealand Tourism Research Unit at the University of Waikato Management School.

In his lecture, Ryan mentioned that he would like to shed light on the future of researchers from his personal perspective. Based on his own experience and his interview with others, he stressed the important role of researchers as they move from traditional research models to honing specific analytical skills and paying attention to uncertain variables.
Several research topics were also mentioned, such as smart tourism and over-tourism. He briefly touched upon the AI tools, discussing both the positive and negative influence of AI and emphasizing the need for careful observation of its development.

In the Q&A session, faculty members and students discussed with Ryan the research methods and the use of tools. They also expressed their gratitude to Ryan, saying the lecture deepened their thoughts on research.
Dr. Abe from the tourism development & management hosted the lecture. Over 100 faculty members and students attended online and on site. On behalf of the college, Vice-dean Li Ping expressed gratitude to Ryan.
