Lecture on rural revitalization delivered at HAITC

The HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College of Hainan University (HAITC) hosted an offline lecture on promoting rural revitalization through academic capability on April 4.

Delivered by Lin Haiying, a professor at the college, and Nie Shuxiang, secretary-general of the Hainan Cultural Industries Promotion Association, the lecture attracted teachers from Hainan University (HNU), and faculty members and students from the HAITC. 

During the event, Lin elaborated on the research directions of rural revitalization, emphasizing ways to further advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and address current issues in social sciences in the process of achieving rural revitalization. 

Lin delved into the essence of poverty and discussed previous misunderstandings about poverty and the specific challenges faced by impoverished communities. By identifying the true causes of poverty, she proposed response strategies. 

Using Yuanjia village as an example, Lin explained specific plans to realize rural revitalization, highlighting the need to address regional poverty not only materially, but also in terms of community spirit, education, and belief.

Nie explained practical approaches to rural revitalization through a detailed analysis of the differences between rural and urban areas. 

He engaged in discussions with participants across the four dimensions of politics, law, policies, and market relations as they relate to urban and rural areas. Based on local characteristics and policy foresight, he analyzed how to enhance policy effectiveness. 

Nie also encouraged HAITC students to view issues from an international perspective.

The lecture featured a Q&A session, where Lin and Nie answered questions raised by the participants on such topics as the differences between rural and urban areas, the research framework and logic of rural revitalization, and trends and development in the tourism industry.
