HAITC hosts student calligraphy competition
The first International Forum on Dongpo Culture was recently convened at Hainan University, Haikou city. With over 200 domestic and international experts and scholars gathering to explore the epochal value and global significance of Dongpo culture, the forum ignited sparks of thought in the philosophy of Su Shi (1037-1101), a great poet and essayist of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).
To promote Dongpo culture and foster cultural awareness and confidence while enriching students' extracurricular lives, the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College of Hainan University (HAITC) organized a calligraphy competition from Feb 27 to Mar 3.
The competition featured the two tracks of hard-tipped pen and soft brush, and received over 50 submissions.
Participating students selected poems written by Su as the basis of their creations, showcasing both the charm of Dongpo culture and the unique styles of their calligraphic techniques.
Moreover, the creators of the winning pieces, as determined by votes from HAITC faculty and staff, were invited to take part in the college's celebration for International Women's Day. They shared their insight and experiences in the traditional Chinese arts of calligraphy and painting, as well as their perspectives on Dongpo culture.
This initiative exposed more individuals to the beauty of calligraphy and provided a glimpse into the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.
