HAITC students go on study tour of Hainan villages

Students from the 2020 class of public service and public policy at the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College at Hainan University (HAITC) took a study tour of villages in Haikou, capital of Hainan province on May 27.

Through case analysis, teachers and students learned about the achievements in rural revitalization in Haikou and related measures taken in the city.

The delegation first visited a wax apple orchard in Jiabing village, Sanjiang township in Meilan district of Haikou. Famous for wax apples, the village has a planting area of nearly 66.67 hectares and an annual output exceeding 10 million yuan (approximately $1.49 million).

Wang Qiong, Party secretary of the CPC Jiabing village committee, explained the village’s revitalization process and its major achievements, highlighting its development mechanism that brings together the Party branch, cooperatives, enterprises and farmers. Wang also answered students’ questions to help them better understand relevant industries and policies.

Students also went to the Fangyuan International Art Village in Yanfeng township, Meilan district. The village promotes rural transformation through art industries and builds itself into a rural tourism industry base with multiple businesses featuring rivers, ponds, fields, and forests.

They also paid a visit to Jiading Villa, a mangrove-themed island homestay in Shanwei village of Yanfeng township. The villa has a bookstore, guest rooms and a multi-functional hall, and boasts breeding, green agriculture, and recycling projects.

Extracurricular activities mark an important step of HAITC’s professional education, encouraging students to apply what they have learned in class into practice.
