Tourism expert speaks to HAITC students on effects of pandemic

Tourism specialist Chris Ryan gave a lecture on TALC theory and smart tourism at the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College, Hainan University master workshop on April 28.

The event broadcast live on Zoom attracted more than 100 teachers and students from HAITC and other higher education institutions.

Wang Lin, dean of HAITC and director of the Chris Ryan workstation, extended heartfelt thanks to Ryan on behalf of the college. Li Ping, director of the tourism management major at HAITC, presided over the lecture.

Focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism and the dilemma faced by the recovery of the sector in the post-pandemic era, Ryan put forward a re-innovation model under new circumstances based on TALC theory and analyzed the application of the model. The lecture also included a Q & A session.

Ryan, an academician of the International Tourism Academy, director of the China-New Zealand Tourism Research Unit and professor from the Waikato Management School at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, has given advice and suggestions to the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, the World Tourism Organization, the New Zealand government and tourism enterprises and relevant organizations. He has also made outstanding contributions to the tourism theory, national and regional tourism development policies and tourist behavior research. Ryan has served as the chief editor of Tourism Management for more than 20 years, and he is also the founder of Tourism Management Perspectives, an authoritative journal on tourism.

Ryan’s seminar marks the opening of the global tourism forum lecture series at his workstation. HAITC is going to invite more experts to hold talks at the college’s master workshops.
