Wang Lin visits Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park
Wang Lin, dean of the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College of Hainan University (HAITC), joined a recent investigative visit to Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park organized by the Hainan committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
One of the first national parks established in China, the park is home to the country’s best-preserved and largest tropical rainforests. It has been recognized as one of the 34 biodiversity hotspots in the world.
The park is home to 3,653 species of wild vascular plants and 540 species of terrestrial vertebrates. The highest biodiversity habitat index in the park reaches 6.28, which is equivalent to that of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil.
Since its opening, the park has developed under the principles of scientific planning, strict protection, rational utilization, social engagement and sustainable development and achieved remarkable results.
During their investigation, CPPCC members talked with government officials, staff members at the park and local residents, and realized the importance and necessity of building a national-level tropical rainforest park, as well as the significance of protecting its biodiversity and ecosystem.
Wang suggested that the local government should strengthen top-level design and reasonable planning, carry out protective exploitation and develop ecotourism and forest healthcare industries to achieve a harmonious coexistence of humankind and nature.
