Updated: Dec 14, 2021

Students majoring in hotel management from the 2020 class of the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) conducted a study tour in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, on Dec 5.

The tour was intended to deepen the students’ understanding of water pollution and wastewater treatment, enhance their environmental awareness and consolidate knowledge learned in class.

They went to the Meishe River National Wetland Park, a major water pollution control project in Haikou. During the tour, students learned about the Meishe River’s notable achievements in tackling water pollution and domestic sewage treatment in nearby communities.

Apart from visiting the eco-park, students also investigated the Baishamen Wastewater Treatment Plant, the largest sewage treatment facility in Haikou, capital of Hainan province. Covering 20.93 hectares, the plant uses a high-load activated sludge system and biological aerated filters for water purification.
