Xiao mainly conducts research in the fields of leisure, parks, tourism and natural resources, and devotes herself to the scientific development of parks and leisure planning, tourism geography and community participation in rural and urban environments.
She is specialized in traffic management in parks, social capacity for sustainable development, societal trends, climate change and the adaptability of cultural resources and heritage, as well as sustainable planning and implementation.
She graduated from Nanjing University with a bachelor's and master's degree and obtained a doctorate from the University of Vermont in the United States.
She has published papers in many international journals and has lectured at global conferences.
